Corcovado

Just a few kilometers away from Lookout Inn is the entrance to the Corcovado National Park, which National Geographic calls “the most biologically intense place on earth”. There are more than 140 species of mammals, 375 species of birds, 850 kinds of trees, and 4 species of monkeys that can be found amid the wildlife canopy.

The National Park contains approximately 3/5th of the peninsula's landmass, and this is the largest remaining protected tract of "Pacific Coast Rainforest" left in the Western Hemisphere!

Join us on an optional three-day/two night hike as we trek through Corcovado National Park to the Sirena Ranger Station. As amazing as this trip is it is not for the faint of heart as it challenges your limits both physically and mentally. On your journey into the park you will hike 19 kilometers through the rainforest, wade through shallow rivers and cross long stretches of beach to Sirena. Situated deep in Corcovado, Sirena offers access to basic facilities including showers, washrooms and potable water but other than that it is quite rustic. Once inside the park you will see more in two hours than you will in two weeks anywhere else in Costa Rica; and considering how much Costa Rica already has to offer you can imagine the amazing potential of Corcovado. While at Sirena take day or night hikes on the trails which are both challenging and unique; but remember to stop, look and listen as you’ll be surprised how many things you can miss if you walk straight through.

If roughing it for our optional three-day experience is not your style, we offer day hikes into the National Park. Many of the important or endangered rainforest species are protected here: tapirs, five species of cats, crocodiles, peccaries, monkeys, and sloths.
