Volunteering

Have you ever volunteered abroad? Have you ever stepped out of your comfort zone and tried something completely out of your element? If so, you know how amazing it can be, and if not, well here’s your chance!

During your stay in Costa Rica you will have the opportunity to participate, as much or as little as you want, with a local volunteer program as they work to restore and protect sea turtles. The program is responsible for patrolling the beach situated directly in front of the eco-lodge. They focus mainly on the Olive Ridley and Leatherback species. Volunteers play an essential role in sea turtle protection. If you choose to volunteer you would join in patrolling beaches to:

• Collect data
• Monitor beach
• Gather turtle eggs
• Relocate turtle eggs to the hatchery
• Monitor eggs and baby turtles
• Release baby turtles into the ocean

This is a unique situation where volunteering is an option and not an obligation. You get to gauge how much you want to be involved. Not only is it good for the body, it’s good for the soul. Just think, you could be releasing turtles that can live up to 150 years!

By having volunteering as an option it allows individuals to get up close with the program while at the same time giving them a chance to see how a volunteer vacation would work without having to commit to the whole experience. This could be a steppingstone to a whole new way of vacationing. So give it a try and see what giving back is all about!
